KNOW BEFORE YOU CALL

Good questions to ask about siding.

Siding is your home’s rain jacket. In the Northwest, what’s behind it (the water-resistive barrier, flashing and trim details) matters as much as the material you can see.

QUESTION 01

What goes behind the new siding?

House wrap, flashing and a drainage gap help keep water out of the walls.

QUESTION 02

Will you check for rot when the old siding comes off?

Ask how hidden damage will be priced before work begins.

QUESTION 03

Which material suits my home and exposure?

Fiber cement, vinyl and wood each have trade-offs in cost, upkeep and look.

Before you hire: In Washington, most contractors must be registered with the Department of Labor & Industries (L&I). Look the business up with L&I’s Verify a Contractor tool before you sign anything. In Oregon, contractors who work on homes must be licensed by the Construction Contractors Board (CCB). Check the license on the CCB website before you sign anything.
