FIELD NOTES / EXTERIORS

Planning an exterior project in the Northwest.

Think through access, weather, sequencing and the parts of your home that work together.

Look at the whole exterior

Note the areas that need attention and photograph visible concerns from a safe location. Share what you have observed without trying to diagnose the cause.

Discuss the order of work

If your project includes roofing, siding, windows or gutters, ask the contractors how their work should be coordinated to avoid repeating steps.

Plan for the workday

Discuss access, parking, pets, outdoor belongings and where materials will be stored. Agree on a point of contact before work begins.

Ask about weather plans

Ask how the property will be protected during work and how weather could affect scheduling. Request a clear process for updates if the schedule changes.
