KNOW BEFORE YOU CALL

Good questions to ask about remodeling.

Kitchens, bathrooms and whole-home updates involve several trades working in sequence. The best remodels start with a clear scope, a realistic schedule and one person responsible for it all.

QUESTION 01

Who manages the project day to day?

One point of contact keeps the trades coordinated.

QUESTION 02

What’s included, and what are the allowances?

Allowances for fixtures and finishes are where budgets usually move.

QUESTION 03

How are change orders priced and approved?

Agree on the process in writing before demolition.

Before you hire: In Washington, most contractors must be registered with the Department of Labor & Industries (L&I). Look the business up with L&I’s Verify a Contractor tool before you sign anything. In Oregon, contractors who work on homes must be licensed by the Construction Contractors Board (CCB). Check the license on the CCB website before you sign anything.
